We have no time to stand and stare…..

It was a fine morning today – woke up at 5am at DXB and drove down to AUH… it was pitch dark… for a change, the stars were visible, and it was 17 degrees C outside. Beautiful weather. Did not even think of switching on the air conditioning unit – just rolled down the windows and the sunroof – and had some amazing music on the radio – from Red Hot Chilli Peppers, to The Verve, to Tracy Chapman – it was just perfect.
Stopped to grab a big cuppa coffee at one of the petrol bunks on the way – and drove on…… theres something about life at 140Kmph… things pass by in a flash – before u even realize what it was… and then some dude in a super-sports-freakin car will drive past at twice your speed and u will wake up from the derilium of the serene tire noise that was almost putting you to sleep… and of course – tracy chapman singing fast car…
Today, however, i had left exceptionally early… and as i entered the outskirts of AUH – i saw this –

The sun was rising – it was slightly hazy – slightly cloudy – two jets had streaked past, leaving their contrails – and suddenly, this red orb burst thru the horizon – it was just beautiful.

What struck me was – there were hundreds driving on the road… but no one.. none at all, even glanced at what was happening… it was just taken for granted – or maybe, they just werent bothered – or cared enough…
I couldnt stop myself – took this picture while driving (from my phone) and then found a lay-by to park in. Got out of the car, with the coffee in my hand, stood against the car and just gazed at the sunrise – and how the chilling air suddenly became to warm up just ever so slightly… it was beautiful.

Is it that we have become so busy in our everyday lives – running after everything materialistic, that we have just forgotten the worlds simple beautiful events? Or is it that the daily ruckus of life has just taken a toll on the entire human race – to the point that thay have started finding 800 metre tall buildings beautiful – but not natural, daily events like this?

The only thing that all this reminded me was a small poem that i think i learnt in 4th standard – and i still remember it somehow – Its ‘Leisure’ by W.H. Davies – and this is how it goes…

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Isnt this just so true??
